Real Talk.
I am NO LONGER A PRODUCT JUNKIE.
I will no longer run out to buy the latest product for my hair…and here’s the reason why.
I went to Walgreens the other day and picked up Twisted Sista products from the Urban Therapy line. Because I have problems with curl definition at the top of my head, I thought the 30 second curl spray and curl activator would work wonders in my hair.
Yeah. Never again.
My first no-no: I ignored the ingredients. I know there were some parabens in there somewhere and I still said yes.
Second no-no: Mixing products when you don’t know how they jive together. If you can take the time to transition to natural hair, then you can take the time to test out new products on your hair one product at a time. How would you know what’s working for you if you used EVERY Kinky Curly, Shea Moisture product in the line?
My results?? I had some irritation on my scalp. Blisters or something…I don’t know, but it scared me. Also, more shedding than usual. I was convinced that I was losing my hair as my curly curls fell into my hands as I washed it.
Believe me when I say this. Your body tells you when it doesn’t like something. I’m developing a bond with my tresses and there’s no way I’m going to jeopardize our budding friendship over some stupid hair products.
I’m using my staple products and that’s it. I’m no longer accepting new products into my circle. (Sorry Miss Jessie…you’ll have to wait.)
For my other product junkies, it takes patience to learn what works/doesn’t work for YOUR hair. Just because our favorite YouTube guru (and yes, I’m also guilty) tells you that a certain product works for them, does not mean it will work for YOUR hair. Think about it before you spend the extra money buying useless products to sit in your cabinets.
